A consultation fee of €100 applies. This amount will be deducted from the final price should you decide to have the forehead lift performed at Blooming Plastische Chirurgie.

Anaesthesia and procedure duration

A forehead lift is performed under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, depending on the technique chosen. The operation takes an average of 60 to 90 minutes. Prior to the operation, the plastic surgeon injects a special fluid into the forehead skin that causes the blood vessels to constrict, thereby limiting blood loss.

Preparation and marking

Before the operation begins, the plastic surgeon carefully marks the area to be treated. This ensures a precise execution of the procedure and determines where the incisions will be placed.

The procedure

In an open forehead lift, the plastic surgeon makes an incision just behind the hairline, running from the centre of the forehead via the temples to halfway along the vertical hairline. The forehead skin is released subcutaneously down to the eyebrows, pulled back and the excess skin is removed. This lowers the forehead height and simultaneously lifts the eyebrows. The skin is closed with sutures or staples that are removed after 7 days. In an endoscopic forehead lift, small incisions are made in the hairline through which the procedure is performed using a camera.

After the operation

After the forehead lift, you can return home on the same day with assistance. You are not permitted to drive yourself after the procedure. Our team will provide you with comprehensive aftercare instructions.

After the forehead lift, you can return home on the same day. Make sure you have someone to assist with transport, as you are not permitted to drive yourself. Rest completely during the first few days.

Swelling and pain

After the procedure, you may experience headaches, swelling and a tight feeling around the forehead. This is a normal part of the healing process. For pain, you may take paracetamol. If insufficient, please contact the clinic. Most patients can resume daily activities after 1 to 2 weeks.

Scars

The scars are located behind the hairline and are therefore barely visible. Because the scalp is incised at an angle, the hair grows through the scar over time, making it even less noticeable. The complete healing process takes one to one and a half years. We advise using a good scar cream and protecting your scars from UV radiation.

Smoking and alcohol

We advise you not to smoke for six weeks before and after the operation, and to avoid alcohol from one week before to one week after the procedure.

General risks

As with any surgical procedure, a forehead lift carries risks and possible complications. Although these risks are small, it is important to be aware of them. General risks include post-operative bleeding, infections, swelling, delayed wound healing and allergic reactions.

Specific complications that may occur in exceptional cases include numbness of the forehead, nerve damage, facial asymmetry and, in very rare cases, hair loss around the scar. The plastic surgeon will discuss these with you in detail during the consultation.
