The entire treatment process will be discussed, including the preparation, the operation itself, the aftercare and the recovery process.

The aim of a facelift

The aim of a facelift is to smooth the sagging skin and underlying tissue of your face and neck. Wrinkles that have formed due to your specific facial expressions will be reduced but will remain to achieve a natural result. During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will discuss which technique is most suitable for your situation and what you can realistically expect from the result.

Advantages, disadvantages, risks and complications

The consultation also covers the advantages and disadvantages of a facelift, as well as the possible risks and complications. The surgeon will be open and honest about potential side effects and will advise you on how to minimise them.

Consultation fee

A consultation fee of €100 applies. This amount will be deducted from the final price should you decide to have the facelift performed at Blooming Plastische Chirurgie.

Anaesthesia and procedure duration

A facelift is performed under general anaesthesia so you will be fully asleep and feel no pain. The operation takes an average of 120 to 240 minutes. Prior to the operation, the plastic surgeon will give you an accurate estimate of the expected duration.

Preparation and marking

Before the operation begins, the plastic surgeon carefully marks the area to be treated. The incisions are placed around the ears and within the hairline, so that the scars are barely visible afterwards.

The procedure

Through the incisions, the skin of your neck, cheeks and the tissue layer beneath the skin is carefully released. This tissue is then repositioned and lifted in the direction of the ear. If necessary, excess fatty tissue in the neck area can be removed through a small incision beneath the chin.

Drains and overnight stay

At the end of the operation, one or more thin tubes (drains) may be placed to drain wound fluid and blood. These are typically removed after one day. Following the facelift, you will stay one night at our clinic for the best care during the first phase of your recovery.

After the operation

After the facelift, your face will be wrapped in a pressure bandage to reduce swelling and bruising. Our team will provide comprehensive aftercare instructions so you are well prepared to go home.

Immediately after the operation

After the facelift, you will spend one night at the clinic under observation. The following morning, the drains will be removed and you can return home with assistance. The pressure bandage must remain in place for a few more days.

Swelling and pain

After the operation, your face and neck will be swollen and discoloured. This is a normal part of the healing process and the swelling usually subsides within two weeks. After one to two weeks, the sutures will be removed.

Scars

The scars are located in the skin folds around the ears and within the hairline, making them barely visible. Depending on the procedure, there may also be a small scar beneath the chin. The complete scar healing process takes one to one and a half years. We advise using a good scar cream and protecting your scars from UV radiation.

Smoking and alcohol

We advise you not to smoke for six weeks before and after the operation, and to avoid alcohol from one week before to one week after the procedure.

General risks

As with any surgical procedure, a facelift carries risks and possible complications. Although these risks are small, it is important to be aware of them. General risks include post-operative bleeding, infections, swelling, delayed wound healing and allergic reactions.

Specific complications

Specific complications that may occur in exceptional cases include fluid accumulation, facial stiffness and damage to the facial nerve. The plastic surgeon will discuss these with you in detail during the consultation.

The complexity of the procedure: An extensive deep-plane facelift treating both the face and neck will generally be more expensive than a mini-facelift targeting specific areas.

Combination with other procedures: If you combine the facelift with an eyelid correction, brow lift or another treatment, the total costs will be adjusted accordingly.

The technique used: The choice of technique, such as a deep-plane or deep neck lift, affects the price.
