The goal of liposuction is to definitively remove unwanted fat deposits and bring the body contours into proportion. The removed fat cells will not return. During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will discuss whether your personal wishes align with your starting situation, which zones will be treated and what you can realistically expect from the result.

During the consultation, the advantages and disadvantages of liposuction will also be discussed, as well as the possible risks and complications. The surgeon will be open and honest about potential side effects and advise you on how to minimise them.

Consultation fee

A consultation fee of €100 applies. This fee will be deducted from the final price of the treatment, should you decide to have the liposuction performed at Blooming Plastische Chirurgie.

Anaesthesia and duration

Liposuction is performed under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, depending on the size of the area to be treated. The procedure takes an average of 30 to 180 minutes, depending on the number of zones and your individual situation. Prior to the procedure, the plastic surgeon will give you an accurate estimate of the expected duration.

Preparation and marking

Before the treatment begins, the plastic surgeon carefully marks the zones to be treated and the locations of the incisions. This ensures a precise execution and as symmetrical an end result as possible.

The procedure

Once the anaesthesia has taken effect, the treatment area is injected through small incisions at inconspicuous locations, such as skin folds, with a special fluid that facilitates the removal of fat cells and reduces blood loss. The plastic surgeon then introduces a fine suction cannula through the incisions, connected to a powerful pump used to suction away the fat cells. The plastic surgeon continuously monitors the amount of fat removed for a balanced result. If the treatment is combined with Renuvion for skin tightening, the same incision points are used. Once the desired result is achieved, the small incisions are sutured.

Drains and overnight stay

In some cases, small tubes (drains) are inserted to drain excess wound fluid. These are typically removed after two days. After liposuction, in most cases you will not need to stay overnight at the clinic and can go home the same day.

After the procedure

After the liposuction, you will receive compression garments that you will need to wear for the first few weeks to support the treated areas and limit swelling. Our team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions so that you go home well prepared.

Immediately after the procedure

After the liposuction, you can usually go home the same day. Arrange for assistance with transport, as you are not permitted to drive yourself. The effect of the anaesthesia and fluid continues to work for a few hours, meaning you will experience little pain during the first night.

Swelling and pain

After the procedure, the treated area may feel stiff, bruised and sensitive. This is a normal part of the healing process and gradually subsides over the first few weeks. Most patients can resume their daily activities after 7 to 14 days.

Scars

The incisions are very small and are made at inconspicuous locations. For the first six weeks after liposuction, the scars may still be swollen and red, after which this gradually fades. The full healing process of the scars takes one to one and a half years. To promote this process, we advise you to use a good scar cream and expose your scars to UV radiation as little as possible.

Smoking and alcohol

To promote wound healing and reduce the risk of complications, we advise you not to smoke for six weeks before and six weeks after the procedure. We also recommend not consuming alcohol from one week before to one week after the procedure.

General risks

As with any surgical procedure, liposuction also carries risks and possible complications. Although these risks are small, it is important to be aware of them. General risks associated with liposuction include post-operative bleeding, infections, swelling, delayed wound healing and allergic reactions.

Specific complications

In addition to the general risks, there are also some specific complications that can occur in exceptional cases, such as numbness of the treated area, an irregular skin surface, bruising, skin discolouration, skin hardening and in very rare cases tissue necrosis. The final price of your liposuction may vary, depending on various factors, such as:

• The number of zones: The price increases with the number of zones treated. From one region under local anaesthesia to four regions under general anaesthesia.

• The chosen anaesthesia: Treatment under general anaesthesia incurs higher costs than treatment under local anaesthesia.

• Combination with Renuvion: Liposuction combined with skin tightening via Renuvion incurs higher costs.
