Fat Transfer (Lipofilling)

From €2.000

Are you looking for a fat transfer treatment by an experienced plastic surgeon in the Netherlands? Blooming Plastische Chirurgie is renowned for its expertise and personal approach. Our BIG-registered plastic surgeons, who also work at Spaarne Gasthuis, would be delighted to discuss your wishes and expectations in a personal consultation at our clinic.

Fat transfer (lipofilling) is a surgical procedure in which the body's own fatty tissue is used to add volume to the breasts or face. It goes beyond simple volume restoration; because the body's own fat is used, the result feels completely natural and supple. At the same time, excess fat is removed from a donor area, such as the abdomen, hips or legs, providing a dual benefit.

Everything you need to know about fat transfer (lipofilling)

Anaesthesia

At Blooming Plastische Chirurgie, a fat transfer treatment is performed under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, depending on the size of the area to be treated. When fat is removed from a larger donor area, general anaesthesia is always used. Our experienced anaesthetists ensure a safe and comfortable anaesthetic in both cases.

Duration of the procedure

The duration of a fat transfer treatment varies depending on the area to be treated and the amount of fatty tissue to be transferred. On average, the treatment takes 60 to 120 minutes. During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will give you a more precise estimate of the expected procedure duration.

Recovery time

Most patients can resume their daily activities after 7 to 14 days. The final result is only visible after three months, once the swelling has subsided and the scars are no longer red. It takes an average of one year for the body to fully recover. Throughout the recovery process, we will guide you closely and provide tailored aftercare to ensure an optimal result.

Your personal introduction to the plastic surgeon

The first consultation is centred on your personal introduction to the plastic surgeon. In an open and confidential atmosphere, you will discuss your wishes and expectations regarding the fat transfer treatment. The surgeon will listen carefully to your story and take the time to thoroughly analyse your physique, the desired treatment area and the donor area.

Tailored information

The surgeon will provide you with comprehensive information about the possibilities of a fat transfer treatment, tailored to your individual situation and wishes. The plastic surgeon will advise you on which donor area is best suited for harvesting the fatty tissue. Your medical background, medication use and overall health will also be discussed. The entire treatment process will be reviewed, including the preparation, the treatment itself, the aftercare and the recovery process.

The goal of a fat transfer treatment

The goal of a fat transfer treatment is to add volume to the breasts, buttocks or face using the body's own fatty tissue, for a completely natural and supple result. At the same time, the donor area is shaped. The plastic surgeon will discuss during the consultation which approach is most suitable for your situation and what you can realistically expect from the result.

Advantages and disadvantages, risks and complications

During the consultation, the advantages and disadvantages of a fat transfer treatment will also be discussed, as well as the possible risks and complications. The surgeon will be open and honest about the possible side effects and advise you on how to minimise them.

Your questions are central

Of course, there is ample opportunity during the consultation to ask all your questions about the fat transfer treatment. The surgeon will answer these questions comprehensively and in plain language, so that you get a good picture of what to expect.

A well-considered decision

We believe it is important that after the consultation you are able to make a well-considered decision about the fat transfer treatment. That is why we devote considerable attention to informing you about the possibilities, risks and expectations. Your wishes and satisfaction with the result are our priority.

Consultation fee

A consultation fee of 100 euros applies. This amount will be deducted from the final price of the treatment, should you decide to have the fat transfer treatment performed at Blooming Plastische Chirurgie.

Anaesthesia and procedure duration

A fat transfer treatment is performed under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, depending on the extent of the donor area. The treatment takes an average of 60 to 120 minutes. Prior to the treatment, the plastic surgeon will give you a precise estimate of the expected procedure duration.

Preparation and marking

Before the treatment begins, the plastic surgeon carefully marks the donor area and the area to be treated. This ensures precise execution and the most balanced possible end result.

The procedure

Via small incisions in the donor area, a special fluid is injected to loosen the fat cells. After twenty minutes of working time, the fat is harvested via liposuction. The harvested fatty tissue is then purified by centrifugation, leaving behind purified pure fatty tissue with stem cells and growth factors. This fatty tissue is evenly injected via small cannulas into the breasts, buttocks or face, so that the cells receive sufficient oxygen and take hold as well as possible. A portion of the injected fat cells will be reabsorbed by the body; on average, 60 to 80 per cent of the fatty tissue remains.

After the treatment

After the fat transfer treatment, you will receive compression garments that you must wear day and night for four to six weeks over the donor area. Our team will provide you with comprehensive aftercare instructions, so that you are well prepared when you go home.

Immediately after the treatment

After the fat transfer treatment, you can go home the same day. Please arrange for someone to accompany you for transport, as you are not permitted to drive yourself. The treated area will be swollen and bruised after the procedure and may feel painful, as if you have exercised intensively. We advise you to consume light, easily digestible food when you arrive home, such as water, tea and dry biscuits.

Swelling and pain

The treated area will be painful and swollen for the first few days. This is a normal reaction and will gradually subside. It is important to remain mobile during the first days, but intensive exercise and heavy lifting are not permitted for the first six weeks.

Scars

After the treatment, very small scars of half a centimetre or less will remain. In the first weeks, the scars may still be red, which will gradually fade. The full healing process takes one to one and a half years. We advise you to use scar cream and to minimise exposure of your scars to UV radiation.

Smoking and alcohol

To promote the recovery process and reduce the risk of complications, we advise you to stop smoking at least two weeks before the treatment and to continue this until six weeks after the procedure. Smoking constricts the blood vessels and has a permanent negative impact on the final result.

Tailored aftercare

Throughout the recovery process, we will guide you closely and provide tailored aftercare to ensure you can fully enjoy the result of your fat transfer treatment.

General risks

As with any surgical procedure, a fat transfer treatment carries risks and possible complications. Although these risks are small, it is important to be aware of them. General risks associated with a fat transfer treatment include post-operative bleeding, infections, swelling, bruising and allergic reactions to the anaesthetic.

Specific complications

In addition to the general risks, there are some specific complications that may occur in exceptional cases, such as fluid accumulations, changes in sensation, irregularities in the skin and dissatisfaction with the result. Because a portion of the injected fat cells will always die off, the final result may differ slightly from expectations. If necessary, an additional treatment can be performed. The plastic surgeon will discuss this in detail with you during the consultation.

Comprehensive information during the consultation

During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will discuss all risks and possible complications in detail with you. You will receive information about the likelihood of complications, how they can be prevented and how they can be treated should they occur.

Your safety is our priority

At Blooming Plastische Chirurgie, your safety is our top priority. Our BIG-registered plastic surgeons take every possible precaution to minimise risks and prevent complications. Should a complication unexpectedly occur, you can count on professional and appropriate care.

Transparency about costs

At Blooming Plastische Chirurgie, we understand that cost is an important factor in your decision to undergo a fat transfer treatment. That is why we strive for transparency and offer the treatment at a fair price, with quality and care always our top priority.

Starting price and factors that influence the price

At Blooming Plastische Chirurgie, the costs of a fat transfer treatment start from 2.000,-. This amount is a guideline and covers the basic costs of the treatment, including consultations, anaesthesia and aftercare procedures.

The final price of your fat transfer treatment may vary, depending on various factors, such as:

  • The treatment area: A fat transfer to one zone of the face differs in price from an extensive treatment of multiple zones or a fat transfer to the body.

  • The chosen anaesthesia: A treatment under general anaesthesia incurs higher costs than a treatment under local anaesthesia.

  • Additional liposuction: The cost of liposuction for harvesting the fatty tissue is not included in a fat transfer to the body and is charged separately.

Personal quote

During the consultation, the plastic surgeon will discuss your wishes and expectations and draw up a personal treatment plan. Based on this treatment plan, you will receive a detailed quote, so that you know exactly where you stand.

Frequently asked questions about fat transfer (lipofilling)

In most cases, general anaesthesia is chosen. You will not be aware of anything during the treatment. With a fat transfer under local anaesthesia, the area to be treated is numbed as effectively as possible. In practice, this often proves insufficient to avoid all pain. There is a maximum amount of anaesthetic fluid that may be injected, and the edges of the numbed area in particular can still be sensitive.
When you arrive home after your fat transfer treatment, we advise you to consume light food such as tea and dry biscuits. It is also important to wear your compression garments day and night for four to six weeks over the area from which the fat was removed.
It is important to remain mobile during the first days after the fat transfer. However, we advise you to refrain from exercising for at least the first six weeks.
How long the fat remains in the treated area varies from person to person. The body reabsorbs the fluid and dead fat cells, meaning approximately 60% to 80% of the injected fatty tissue remains.
This depends entirely on your percentage of fatty tissue in the area from which the fat is removed. If you have a high percentage of fatty tissue in the donor area, more fat can be injected than if you have a low percentage. It is also important to know that a portion of the injected fatty tissue is reabsorbed by the body, as these are dead fat cells that can no longer be absorbed.
After the treatment, very small scars of half a centimetre or less will remain. It is recommended, when a small scab forms on the wound after the treatment, to apply scar cream to make the scar as inconspicuous as possible.
