Ask the Doctor: About Facelifts

In this Ask the Doctor feature, one of our plastic surgeons at Blooming answers your most pressing questions about facelifts. What does a modern facelift actually involve? Who is the ideal candidate? How does recovery look, and what can you expect in terms of natural results? A facelift today is far more subtle and refined than procedures of the past, targeting the underlying facial structures for long-lasting, natural-looking rejuvenation. Read on to get expert answers and take the first step toward a refreshed, confident appearance.

In this section, one of our plastic surgeons speaks each month. Here the doctor answers the 5 most frequently asked questions about a specific treatment. This month drs. Kalam Ahmed answers the most frequently asked questions about a facelift. How long does recovery take after a facelift? Wound healing is sufficiently advanced after 1 week to remove the stitches, but the actual healing process can take up to 3 months. In principle, you will experience 1 to 2 weeks of discomfort from the surgery. After 3 months, there is a final check-up as the ultimate result is truly visible by then.
Which area is lifted in a facelift?
In a face/neck lift, the neck is naturally lifted, from the jawline downwards. If necessary, the double chin is reduced via liposuction and the excess skin is tightened by reinforcing the platysma muscle. In the face, the entire cheek area is lifted, with the exception of the mouth and eyes.
How long does the result last?
The result lasts between 5 and 15 years, depending on the individual quality of the client's skin. The clock is turned back but it does not stop ticking, meaning that the ageing process does not stop. When treated at a younger age, it may occur that a client wishes to repeat the treatment after approximately 15 years.
How visible are the scars?
The scars are not noticeable because we conceal them as much as possible within the hairline and along the anatomical borders of the ear, behind the ear, and along the cheeks.
What does a facelift cost? The treating surgeon will advise on the best treatment option based on the consultation, and the price may therefore vary. We sometimes also recommend an additional procedure to achieve the optimal result, such as an eyelid correction or lipofilling. All options will be discussed in detail during the consultation.
