The aim of a rhinoplasty

The aim of a rhinoplasty is to bring the nose into better harmony with the rest of the face, both aesthetically and functionally. Sometimes a nasal tip correction is sufficient, but often a more extensive correction is needed to achieve the desired result. The plastic surgeon will discuss during the consultation which technique is most suitable for your situation.

During the consultation, the advantages and disadvantages of a rhinoplasty will also be discussed, as well as the possible risks and complications. The surgeon will be open and honest about the possible side effects and will advise you on how to minimise them.

Consultation fee

A consultation fee of €100,- applies. This amount will be deducted from the final price of the treatment, should you decide to have the rhinoplasty performed at Blooming Plastische Chirurgie.

Anaesthesia and duration of surgery

A rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia, so you will be completely asleep during the procedure and will feel no pain. The operation takes an average of 60 to 180 minutes, depending on the complexity of the procedure and your individual situation. Prior to the operation, the plastic surgeon will give you a precise estimate of the expected operating time.

Preparation and marking

Before the operation begins, the plastic surgeon will once again discuss the desired corrections based on the profile analysis from the consultation. This ensures precise execution of the procedure and a result that is in harmony with your face.

The procedure

A rhinoplasty can be performed using a closed or open technique. With the closed technique, all incisions are made on the inside of the nose, so that no visible scars arise. With the open technique, a small incision is made at the base between the nostrils. For a nasal tip correction, only the cartilage of the nasal tip is corrected via a small incision on the inside of the nose. After the correction, the incision is carefully sutured and the nose is supported with adhesive dressings or a splint.

After the operation

After the rhinoplasty, you may go home the same day with assistance. You are not permitted to drive yourself after the procedure. After one week, the splint and any sutures will be removed. Our team will give you comprehensive aftercare instructions so that you are well prepared to go home.

Immediately after the operation

After the rhinoplasty, a plastic splint is placed on the nasal bridge that provides protection for one week. If nasal packing has been placed, this is usually removed after one day. Please arrange for someone to accompany you home, as you are not permitted to drive yourself.

Swelling and pain

After the operation, you may experience swelling and bruising, particularly around the eyes and nose. This is a normal part of the healing process and will gradually subside. During the first week, it is important not to lift, strain or bend over. You will be prescribed antibiotics as a precaution against infections and an ointment to prevent the formation of crusts.

Scarring

With the closed technique, there are no visible scars on the outside of the nose. With the open technique, the scar is located at the base between the nostrils and is barely visible after full recovery. The complete healing process of the scars takes one to one and a half years. To promote this process, we advise you to use a good scar cream and to minimise exposure of your scars to UV radiation.

Smoking and alcohol

To promote the wound healing process and reduce the risk of complications, we advise you not to smoke for six weeks before and six weeks after the operation. We also recommend that you refrain from drinking alcohol from one week before to one week after the procedure.

General risks

As with any surgical procedure, a rhinoplasty carries risks and possible complications. Although these risks are small, it is important to be aware of them. General risks of a rhinoplasty include post-operative bleeding, infections, swelling, delayed wound healing and allergic reactions.

Specific complications

In addition to the general risks, there are also some specific complications that may occur in exceptional cases, such as changes in sensation around the nose, asymmetry and a feeling of nasal congestion. Despite the extensive experience and precision of our plastic surgeons, a perfectly symmetrical result cannot be guaranteed in all cases, given the natural asymmetry that is already present in most people.

The final price of your rhinoplasty may vary depending on various factors, such as:

The type of correction: A nasal tip correction is less complex than a full rhinoplasty and therefore differs in price.

Use of cartilage: A rhinoplasty in which ear or rib cartilage is used for reconstruction incurs higher costs.

Septoplasty: If the nasal septum is also corrected in addition to the aesthetic correction, the total costs will be adjusted accordingly.
