As the years pass, your face loses volume and you begin to look older. This volume can be restored with hyaluronic acid fillers, but also with your own body fat. This treatment is called lipofilling. The advantage of lipofilling is that the fat comes from your own body, which means fewer side effects and allergic reactions. The effect of lipofilling is also permanent, whereas filler treatments must be repeated regularly.
What is Lipofilling?
With lipofilling, your own fat is transplanted by means of liposuction. This transplanted fat is injected into your face or into other body parts that have lost volume. Lipofilling is used for both cosmetic purposes and reconstructive treatments, for example after a breast transplant.
The Consultation
Before the actual treatment is carried out, a consultation with the performing plastic surgeon will take place. During this consultation, all important aspects of the treatment are discussed, such as the content of the treatment and the result you can expect. We will also discuss aftercare during this appointment.
The Treatment
Once you have agreed to the treatment plan, the actual treatment is performed. Under local or general anaesthesia, fatty tissue is removed from your abdomen or thighs using small cannulas. The fat is then purified and injected into the area to be treated.
Aftercare
During the first few days after the treatment, the areas from which the fat was removed may swell. It is important to know that the injected fat may (partially) disappear again after a few months. The result can therefore only be properly assessed after a few months. Multiple treatments are sometimes needed to achieve the desired result. However, after an initial treatment you will not be disappointed: you will quickly see an improvement in the volume and suppleness of the skin.
