Skin Tightening with Renuvion (J-Plasma)

Renuvion, also known as J-Plasma, is an advanced minimally invasive technology for skin tightening that uses a combination of helium plasma and radiofrequency energy. It stimulates collagen production beneath the skin, resulting in firmer, tighter skin with minimal downtime compared to traditional surgical lifting procedures. This article explains how Renuvion works, which areas can be treated, who is a suitable candidate, and what results you can expect at Blooming Plastic Surgery.

At Blooming Plastische Chirurgie, we offer a relatively new treatment by Dutch standards: skin tightening using the Renuvion. For those who are familiar with popular cosmetic procedures outside the EU, the Renuvion is not new — it is already known there by the name J-Plasma. The Renuvion treatment is used to tighten the skin and subcutaneous fat tissue, without the large scarring associated with surgical operations. In this blog, we tell you everything about the Renuvion treatment. A treatment with the Renuvion provides tightening of the skin and improvement of body contours. Multiple areas across the entire body can be treated with the Renuvion to tighten the skin and improve contour. The most common areas are the neck, upper arms, abdomen, upper legs, and knees. The treatment is particularly well-suited to being combined with liposuction. After the desired fat tissue has been removed, the Renuvion treatment provides tightening of the skin and remaining fat tissue. An advantage of the Renuvion treatment is that no large incisions need to be made in the skin. The incisions in the skin are less than one centimetre in size. The procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia for a small area and under general anaesthesia for larger or multiple treatment areas. Combined with liposuction, the Renuvion treatment improves body contours and tightens the skin. For more information about liposuction, click here. The Renuvion device operates on the basis of helium and radiofrequency, which together form a flow of energy (plasma). The energy creates a controlled heat to tighten the skin and subcutaneous fat tissue, while the helium simultaneously cools the area. Helium gas is introduced into the treatment area via a cannula. Through an electrical current, a plasma is created. In physics, Plasma is the fourth state of matter alongside solid, liquid and gas. The most recognisable example of plasma is the plasma lamp, but the sun and most stars also consist of plasma. The plasma energy is conducted specifically through the collagen network of the fat and skin. This causes a contraction of the subcutaneous connective tissue, resulting in tightening. In addition, the plasma energy stimulates collagen formation. This process continues for up to 9 months after the treatment. Is Renuvion safe? Although Renuvion is a procedure that places less burden on the body than an extensive surgical operation, as with any procedure there are risks that need to be taken into consideration. As with any surgical procedure, a wound infection can occur. Should an infection arise, the treatment may consist of administering antibiotics or opening the wound. The Renuvion cannula is used subcutaneously. In doing so, it is possible that structures other than fat may be damaged, such as blood vessels. This can cause bruising or post-operative bleeding. It is also possible that nerves are affected, resulting in a temporary reduction in skin sensation in some areas. To prevent post-operative bleeding, wearing compression garments after the procedure is strongly recommended. Compression of the treated area reduces the risk of post-operative bleeding. An individual's decision to undergo an operation is based on weighing the risks against the potential benefits. During a personal consultation, the plastic surgeon will provide detailed information about the procedure and its associated risks. At Blooming Plastische Chirurgie, safety and transparency are our priorities. Should you have any questions following this article, we will be happy to answer them.
