In a previous blog post, we covered the questions that are frequently asked about breast augmentations. One of the other procedures that the surgeons at Blooming regularly perform is eyelid corrections. This procedure also comes with various questions and doubts. For this reason, this blog post answers the four most frequently asked questions about eyelid corrections.

1. What Type of Anaesthesia Is Used in an Eyelid Correction?

When you undergo an eyelid correction, you will be anaesthetised. An upper eyelid correction is usually performed under local anaesthesia with lidocaine. A lower eyelid correction is also generally performed under local anaesthesia. However, if you prefer general anaesthesia for your upper eyelid correction, this is possible under certain conditions.

2. Is an Eyelid Correction Covered by Insurance?

This question is asked regularly. An earlier blog post on the Blooming website addressed this topic. The conclusion was that health insurers only cover an eyelid correction when it is medically necessary, and not when it is purely for cosmetic reasons. One of the conditions that is often set is that the eyelid must cover at least half of the pupil. This impairs vision to such an extent that an eyelid correction may be eligible for reimbursement.

3. How Long Do the Results Last?

A corrected eyelid will naturally revert over time, as the ageing process continues. This means that an eyelid correction will not last for the rest of your life. In general, the results of a new eyelid correction will remain visible for five to fifteen years after the procedure. How long the results will last in your specific case depends on many different factors and varies from person to person. After this period, you may be eligible for another eyelid correction.

4. What Possible Complications Are There?

Like any medical procedure, an eyelid correction can also result in complications. In most cases, there are no complications. Complications that could potentially occur with an eyelid correction include post-operative bleeding, reduced sensation in the eyelids and fluid accumulation. If the eyelids are temporarily unable to open or close properly, this may cause dryness. The surgeon will then prescribe a medication. The aforementioned complications are generally not permanent.
