Buttock Augmentation: The Latest Beauty Trend

Fuller, rounder buttocks have become a major beauty trend in recent years, driven in part by the influence of social media and celebrity culture. At Blooming, we offer safe and effective options for buttock augmentation, including fat transfer (lipofilling) and gluteal implants. In this article, we explore the trend, discuss what is driving the increased demand, and explain how our specialists approach buttock augmentation with a focus on natural-looking results and patient safety. If you are curious about this procedure, this article is a great starting point for understanding your options.

It is one of the latest trends in the world of cosmetic surgery: buttock augmentation. Various celebrities and fitness influencers have already given nature a helping hand. In Brazil, it is perfectly normal to have fuller buttocks. In January 2017, plastic surgeon Joost Staudt was a guest on RTL Boulevard to talk about this trend and treatment. We are happy to inform you about this complex but popular procedure.

Why buttock augmentation?

There are various reasons to have the buttocks augmented. A fuller bottom has become a trend due to the influence of various trendsetters, and many women simply find fuller buttocks more attractive. Others have the volume restored after significant weight loss. Volume in the buttocks also decreases as we age — this is a commonly cited reason for buttock augmentation.

Augmentation with own fat or implants?

When enlarging your buttocks, you can choose to do so with your own fat or with implants. However, the latter method is not our preference, as the risk of complications with silicone implants is 30% higher than with the use of the body's own fat. The risk of infections is also greater, and buttock implants are generally very firm, making sitting quite uncomfortable. It is recommended to opt for the treatment in which the buttocks are augmented using one's own fat (lipofilling). This procedure is also known as the Brazilian butt lift. Fat is removed from, for example, the abdomen and then injected into the buttocks. In order to perform this treatment, sufficient (abdominal) fat must be available for harvesting. This fat is processed and re-injected into the desired areas. Fat cells that have been relocated and receive a good blood supply in their new position remain permanently in place. As with any procedure, complications can occur. These include persistent pain, post-operative bleeding, asymmetrical buttocks, skin irregularities, and the absorption of the injected fat.

Choose the right surgeon

It is very important to have a buttock lift performed by a specialised and well-trained plastic surgeon. Therefore, make sure the surgeon is a member of the Dutch Association for Cosmetic Medicine (NVCG). At Kliniek Blooming, we perform this procedure on a regular basis.
