When it comes to treating facial wrinkles, there are several options — and choosing the right one depends on the type and depth of the wrinkles, your age, your skin condition, and how dramatic a result you are looking for. Botox works well for dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement, fillers address volume loss and static wrinkles, and a facelift tackles more significant sagging and skin laxity. In this article, our specialists at Blooming explain the differences, help you understand what each option can achieve, and guide you towards the treatment that best matches your goals.
Have you noticed more and more lately that your skin is less firm, that you are getting wrinkles and your face looks a little older? There are very few people who embrace their wrinkles. Most would prefer to turn back the clock to regain their youthful appearance. At Kliniek Blooming, this is possible. We tighten the skin, relax the muscles and restore the volume in your face to ensure your skin looks young and fresh again. We are happy to explain how we do this: with a facelift, Botox or fillers.
Troubled by wrinkles on your face
Some people still have smooth skin at sixty, while others are already walking around with wrinkles on their face in their forties. Medically speaking, wrinkles are harmless, but we understand that not everyone finds them attractive. Especially when the wrinkles and folds on your face make you look much older, or when your frown lines give you an angry expression.
Differences between fillers, facelift and Botox
Facelift for smooth skin
A facelift is a surgical procedure in which the surgeon tightens the skin, muscle tissue and connective tissue of your face. Because the skin is pulled more tightly across your face, you achieve a younger appearance. Wrinkles and fine lines disappear as a result of the treatment. You should however allow for a recovery period.
For a truly significant difference, choose a facelift. The surgical procedure delivers the greatest results.
Advantages of a facelift
- Lasting results: you enjoy firmer skin for the rest of your life.
- Suitable for people with many wrinkles and folds on their face.
- Also suitable for people with shallow wrinkles.
- Choice of different procedures: mini-lift, brow lift, forehead lift, mid-facelift, standard facelift or neck lift.
Disadvantages of a facelift
- The price is higher than for injectables such as Botox and fillers.
- You will need several weeks to recover from the procedure.
- You will have scars, but these run discreetly along the hairline.
Fillers to remove wrinkles
With fillers, we focus not so much on the skin itself, but on the underlying tissue. As we age, volume disappears from the face, making the skin appear less firm and causing wrinkles to form. By adding a little volume to the face with hyaluronic acid, the skin becomes taut again and you look younger.
Would you rather avoid surgery? Then fillers are the perfect solution for achieving a more youthful appearance.
Advantages of fillers
- The price is lower than a facelift: you pay a maximum of a few hundred euros for fillers.
- No recovery time is required after the treatment and you will have no scarring.
- The effect is reversible if you are not satisfied.
- The treatment is performed under local anaesthesia or without anaesthesia, so you can go straight home afterwards.
Disadvantages of fillers
- The results are visible for approximately 6 to 9 months. After this, you will need a new treatment.
- The effect is limited: primarily suitable for the first signs of skin ageing.
- There is a chance of bruising immediately after the treatment. This will disappear on its own within a few days.
Botox relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles
A third method to make the wrinkles on your face disappear is a treatment with Botox. The doctor injects this injectable into, for example, a muscle in your forehead to relax it. The result is that the muscle no longer causes a frown line, giving you smoother skin. Other wrinkles on your face can also be treated with Botox.
Have deep wrinkles removed with Botox: a treatment that takes only 15 minutes and requires no recovery time.
Advantages of Botox
- Less expensive than a facelift, treatment is available for just a few hundred euros.
- No scarring and no recovery period.
- You can go straight home after the treatment.
- No anaesthesia required, you will feel very little during the treatment.
- We recently introduced Botox subscriptions. You can also benefit from these.
Disadvantages of Botox
- The effect of Botox is visible for approximately 3 to 6 months.
- Excessive use can reduce your facial expression, but our doctors ensure this does not happen.
- Not suitable for wrinkles caused by excess skin.
Combine the treatments
Do you have both lax skin and volume loss? In that case, a facelift combined with fillers may deliver the best results. During the facelift, the plastic surgeon tightens the skin, eliminating any excess. Fillers are then injected to restore the volume in your face.
Are the wrinkles on your face caused by tense muscles and volume loss? Then a combination of Botox and fillers is an excellent solution. Botox relaxes the muscles that cause the wrinkles, while the fillers restore the volume in your face. Before you know it, you will look radiant again!
