Why You Are Better Off Having Plastic Surgery in the Netherlands

Considering plastic surgery abroad may seem appealing, but there are strong reasons to choose a certified Dutch clinic instead. In the Netherlands, plastic surgeons are strictly regulated and must be registered with the NVPC. Quality standards, aftercare, and patient rights are all protected by Dutch law. If complications arise, you can count on swift, professional follow-up care close to home. In this article, we explain why choosing a certified Dutch clinic like Blooming offers you the safest and most reliable path to achieving your aesthetic goals.

It sounds attractive: a cosmetic mini-holiday where you have work done on yourself abroad. You are not the only one considering this, as the lower prices and the anonymity of recovery make it seem very appealing. Yet there are many disadvantages to having a cosmetic procedure abroad.

1. Insufficient knowledge

Plastic surgery. It is popular and accessible worldwide when it comes to changing something about yourself. Major and minor procedures are performed daily to enhance the human body. Abroad, these cosmetic procedures are in some cases offered more cheaply than in the Netherlands. This is related to various factors, such as the employment conditions in the country in question and the regulations surrounding plastic surgery. These regulations are determined nationally and cover areas such as hygiene, service and quality. As a client, it is difficult to verify whether the plastic surgeon abroad adheres to these often strict rules and what training the doctor has received. However, this is of great importance for the procedure. Consider, for example, hygiene in operating theatres - if this is not excellent, the risk of complications increases. Of course, there are also excellent surgeons abroad, but how do you verify this?

2. Additional costs

A procedure abroad may well be cheaper, but the costs of your travel and accommodation during your recovery have not yet been accounted for. You cannot fly home immediately after an operation. Normally you must always return for a check-up one week after the procedure. Only after that can you return home with peace of mind. During this week you need somewhere to stay where you can recover in complete rest. It is helpful to have someone who can look after you and, for example, prepare meals. Flight tickets, hotels and services are certainly not free. These costs are on top of the cost of the procedure. Bear this in mind.

3. Recovery and complications

After a cosmetic procedure, you must rest sufficiently. This means: avoid physical exertion and give your body time to recover. Travelling requires a great deal of energy and therefore hinders this recovery. It is also reassuring to be able to return to your own plastic surgeon if you experience any complaints. After every operation there is a risk of infections or post-operative bleeding. These can be resolved, but not at a distance. Just as with the quality of the operation, the quality of aftercare is of great importance. During recovery, you can still influence your result.
