In addition to my work as office manager at Blooming, I devote much attention to healthy living, of which nutrition is an important part. In this column I share my top 10 foods for beautiful skin.
ALMONDS — An excellent source of vitamin E and manganese. Daily almonds also increase your HDL (good) cholesterol and reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol.
AVOCADO — Contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, and E — all known for benefits to skin, hair, nails, and immunity. Avocado makes your skin and hair radiant!
BLUEBERRIES — Packed with antioxidants that play an important role in fighting the ageing process.
BROCCOLI — Contains many minerals and vitamins for a healthy body. Eating broccoli causes your body to produce sulforaphane, which helps sunburned skin recover more quickly.
GINGER — Contains gingerol, shogaol, and zingiberene, making it a highly potent antioxidant.
FLAXSEED — Rich in alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid important for heart and cardiovascular health. Delicious over a salad or stirred into yoghurt!
WALNUTS — Full of omega-3 fats, fibre, magnesium, vitamin E, polyphenols, protein, potassium, plant sterols, vitamin B6, arginine, melatonin, copper, and zinc.
WATER — Drink plenty for a well-hydrated skin. Preferably filtered tap water.
SALMON — Contains magnesium, a broad range of B vitamins, and healthy fats.
SWEET POTATO — Rich in vitamins A, C, and B6, as well as minerals such as calcium, folic acid, and potassium.
