Liposuction: Removing Stubborn Fat

Liposuction: Removing Stubborn Fat

Despite diet and exercise, those last fat deposits can be hard to remove. Liposuction is the ideal solution. Read more about it here.

You lead a healthy lifestyle. You eat sensibly and exercise several times a week. And yet you simply cannot get rid of that edge of fat that has accumulated around your waist. You keep being bothered by that localised fat on your arms or hips. Sometimes it is just very difficult to make it disappear. Liposuction can then be a solution.

The Function of Fat

Our body contains approximately 50 billion fat cells. The fat in these cells — our body fat — is not all bad. In fact, it has a number of important functions:

  • protection against external impact
  • insulation
  • storage function
  • hormone function

Problem Areas

An excess of fat, however, leads to being overweight, which brings with it the associated health risks. When you maintain a healthy lifestyle, you generally need not worry about this. Nevertheless, we know of certain 'problem areas' where rolls of fat can develop, such as the abdomen, hips, legs, arms, back, chin or neck. Or where they remain after a period of weight loss. Your body stores body fat there as a kind of last emergency reserve. Such fat deposits are very difficult to remove through diet or exercise.

Gone Permanently

With liposuction, they can however disappear. And even disappear permanently, as the fat cells are definitively removed and can therefore no longer fill up. It goes without saying that if your weight increases, fat cells elsewhere in your body will fill up again. During a liposuction, one of our plastic surgeons uses fine suction cannulas to remove the localised fat, so that your body contours are once again in proportion.

Healthy Weight

Contrary to what is often thought, liposuction is not the solution for people who are overweight. The best result is achieved when you have a healthy weight and firm skin. Our plastic surgeons therefore use the BMI index to determine whether you are eligible for this procedure.

Renuvion Treatment

It often occurs that the skin is somewhat loose following the procedure. This depends, amongst other things, on your skin elasticity and the location of the procedure. We see loose skin for example in ageing or following weight loss or a pregnancy. In such cases, the liposuction can also be combined with a Renuvion treatment. This treatment tightens the skin and the subcutaneous fat tissue. It works on the basis of helium and radiofrequency, which together form a flow of energy: plasma. This is why Renuvion is also known by the name 'J-Plasma'.
