How to Best Prepare for Rhinoplasty

Proper preparation is key to a successful rhinoplasty and a smooth recovery. In this article, our plastic surgeons share practical advice on how to prepare both physically and mentally for nose surgery. We cover topics such as what to discuss during your consultation, how to adjust your lifestyle in the weeks before surgery, what to expect on the day itself, and how to plan your recovery period. Being well-prepared will help you feel confident and in control, and will contribute to the best possible outcome.

Are you considering a rhinoplasty but still undecided? The decision of whether or not to undergo a rhinoplasty is not a simple one. Read here what you must know before having a rhinoplasty performed. Feelings of insecurity about your nose can cause your self-confidence to decline. According to Israeli professor Abraham Tamir, there are 14 different types of noses. The causes of insecurity vary: perhaps due to bullying or a sense of rejection. Whatever the case: always think carefully about such a procedure.

Know how the procedure works

On average, the procedure takes one to two hours. The surgeon ensures good visibility of the underlying structures such as the cartilage and bone. This is sometimes done with a small scar at the underside of the nose (open procedure), but can sometimes be achieved through the nostrils alone (closed procedure). After the operation, a plastic splint is placed for protection. Nasal packing is usually not used, so you can breathe through your nose normally after the operation.

Discuss your expectations in advance

People often think that a rhinoplasty will by definition produce a wonderful result. In most cases this is so, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is therefore very important to align your expectations with what is possible. Communication with the surgeon is the most important part of the procedure and prevents disappointment.

Prepare for complications and do not underestimate the procedure

The risk of complications following a rhinoplasty is small. It is nevertheless advisable to seek out a qualified surgeon beforehand. In this way you can minimise complications such as infection or unexpected bleeding. Read reviews and ask in your circle about experiences.

Be prepared for the recovery

Recovery from a rhinoplasty takes a very long time and is underestimated by many people. Do not be alarmed if you experience bleeding in the first few days - this is normal. In the first 48 hours your nose will be very swollen, and after one week the splint is removed along with any sutures. Most swelling will have subsided after 6 weeks, however minor nuances can still occur up to a year after the procedure.

The cost of the procedure

The cost of a rhinoplasty depends on the complexity of the procedure. At our clinic, you can expect prices between 3,500 EUR and 6,500 EUR. When the procedure is medically indicated, it may in some cases be covered by insurance. Are you curious about the options? Make an appointment with our skilled plastic surgeons or call 023-5444974.
