Frequently Asked Facelift Questions

Considering a facelift but not sure what to expect? Our plastic surgeons at Blooming answer the most common questions: Who is a good candidate? What results can I realistically expect? How long is recovery? Will the results look natural? A modern facelift addresses sagging skin, deep folds, and loss of definition in the lower face and neck. We walk you through the entire process — from your first consultation through surgery and recovery — so you can make an informed, confident decision about your treatment.

A cosmetic procedure is a carefully considered decision. Are you unsure about a facelift? Blooming Clinic answers the most frequently asked questions.

Does a Facelift Affect Your Facial Expression?

A facelift tightens the contours of the face, making you look fresher, younger and more radiant. Because the muscles and tendons remain untouched, you can still make the same facial expressions as before the procedure.

Will I Have Scars?

A facelift does leave scars. In practice the scars are barely noticeable because they are hidden in the fold in front of the ears, along the hairline or directly behind the ear. Thanks to special techniques, the plastic surgeons at Blooming Clinic keep the final scar to a minimum. During the first months after the procedure the scars may appear red. Over time they take on the skin colour and eventually only a small light line remains. We always advise protecting and caring for the scar with Dokter Staudt scar cream.

How Long Do the Results Last?

A facelift turns back the clock but does not stop the natural ageing process. After the procedure the elasticity of the skin will gradually diminish. How quickly this happens depends on skin type and lifestyle. Smoking and stress can have a strong influence on the result.

Is a Facelift Covered by Insurance?

In some cases a facelift was previously covered by insurance, but this is no longer the case. A facelift is a cosmetic procedure. Cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurers.

Is a Facelift Painful?

A facelift is generally not experienced as painful. During the procedure you will feel nothing because you will be well anaesthetised. During the first few days after the procedure you may experience an uncomfortable tightening sensation as the skin and underlying tissues have been pulled taut. This can be well managed with painkillers and will soon subside. Do you have other questions or would you like to know what a facelift can do for you?
