This month, drs. Joost Staudt answers the most frequently asked questions about a rhinoplasty.
How long does the procedure take?
Depending on the extent of the procedure, an operation takes between 1 and 2 hours. A nasal tip correction or a hump correction (removal of a bump on the nose) takes one hour, whilst a correction of the entire nose takes longer.
Will I have nasal packing?
No, that is not necessary. This is an external rhinoplasty and packing is not required. Should cartilage from the nasal septum be needed to reinforce the nose, packing will be placed and removed the following day. This is rarely the case.
When will I be presentable again?
After 1 week, the plastic splint is removed from the nose and the stitches are taken out. A week later, most of the swelling has subsided. So after 2 weeks you will be presentable again. Please note: even after a year, the last traces of swelling may still disappear from the nasal tip.
Are there visible scars after the treatment?
In the case of a closed procedure, the scars are located inside the nose, whilst in an open procedure the scar appears on the underside of the nose. This is a small v-shaped scar that is barely noticeable.
If you would like more information about the treatment, we would be delighted to invite you for a consultation. An appointment can be made here.
